Lights On Home Compostable Certifications in 2022Supporting the World's Forest by Being FSC Certified

Our black shipping mailers are Australian certified 100% home Compostable. It may take up to 120 days if composted properly at home. They are made from 70-80% PBAT (a co-polymer that is completely compostable) and 20-30% PLA (which is a fancy way of saying cornstarch). This compostable packaging material easily breaks down when it is buried in soil or disposed of in a compost bin. During break down, the materials do not emit any harmful toxins and quickly convert into rich compost, which we have been using for our plants.

Our paper tags are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. It is recognized as a credible way to demonstrate a commitment to sustainable forestry. It means that our wood or forest-based material is sourced from responsibly managed forests. It has been produced in a way that protects the environment, benefits local communities, and supports sustainable economic practices. You can dispose our tags into your paper & cardboard recycling bin.

Our branded transparent satchels are made of LDPE4 (Low-Density PolyEthylene). REDcycle used to accept different kinds of plastics they could recycle – including LDPE 4. REDcycle had partnered up with many Australian supermarkets that you could choose from to drop off your plastics at the given locations. These plastics were then recycled into other products such as plastic school furniture. Since 2022, REDcycle program itself is suspended due to issues with processing and a lack of capacity. Some trials and initiatives are underway to find new solutions for soft plastic recycling. Dispose in General Waste for now.

Our hooded towels... well, they are designed to last - either because they are durable, or simply because we don't want to live without them. Just look after them, wash only when dirty, mend them if they break, and when you are done... please donate or recycle. If you’d like to learn more about recycling in Australia, check out organisations like Planet Ark and Clean Up Australia.
